Pipes and Leaks

Pipe Freezing

Pipe freezing is a method of isolating the interior space of a pipe to repair, extend, terminate or maintain it. This creative, technologically advanced solution offers a way around a complete shutdown of the portable water system, which is expensive, time-consuming, and inconvenient alternative to the user. Instead, we use the liquid contents of a short section of pipe are frozen using carbon dioxide or liquid nitrogen to form a plug of ice, effectively blocking off the relevant part of the pipe that needs work.

Duncan’s Plumbing Heating & Air Conditioning Plumbing offers Canberra’s pipe freezing service, with the ability to freeze most metal pipe systems of between 6–40mm in diameter. Our method of controlled pipe freezing can be used for piping modifications, valve replacements, hydrostatic testing and system maintenance.

Upon completion of the maintenance or repairs, the ‘ice plug’ can be left to melt naturally, allowing the system to flow once more. Call our friendly service team to find out more or book an appointment today.

Sometimes we’re required to locate the pipework which is not necessarily located nearby.

Pipes and Leaks

Leaks are bad news wherever they appear: disruptive and loud, even on occasion, they are reticent. They ruin walls, ceilings, floors and homes; they also cost you dearly in terms of long-term water wastage on top of that. Due to the nature of domestic water pipes, a damaging leak may not be discovered until long after it has occurred, and by then it may have caused significant and sometimes irreparable damage to your home. This is why leak detection is so important: identifying the problem early on can save you a lot of hassle and expense in the long run.
